I majored in Movement Science at the University of Michigan, B.S., M.S. I grew up in Grand Rapids, MI and moved to the Ann Arbor area in 1977.
What got you into the fitness industry?
I became interested in the fitness/wellness industry in my early twenties when my father passed away too young from lung cancer – totally related to smoking and other unhealthy behaviors.
The person that inspires me is the Apostle Paul, because once he figured out his life’s work, he was TOTALLY committed to it.

Family means everything to me! They’ve taught me the meaning of love and they’ve challenged me to grow in so many ways.
My proudest accomplishment was putting myself through college while working almost full time.
I don’t sing Karaoke. But if I did? Probably, “I Will Survive!”
Hmmm… pizza? I think I’d get sick of everything else.

I’m currently a senior at Pioneer High School and will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall. My major is currently undecided.
I have worked out at AFS since I was in 8th grade, then I started working at the front, now I am interning!
My biggest inspiration is my Grandma. She has seven kids, 18 grandchildren, she can walk 8 holes of golf at 86 years old and she has beaten cancer!
My guilty pleasure is the Bachelor, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and Grey’s Anatomy.
“Bless the whole world, no exceptions”
Donald, my buddy with down syndrome. He teaches me more than anyone, and I am so grateful I get to hangout with him every day.
My proudest accomplishment is getting accepted into college!
Obsessed by Mariah Carey, but nobody would ever want to hear me sing.
Hometown: Davison, MI
I currently attend Eastern Michigan University with a major in Sport Performance and Fitness Entrepreneurship.
Growing up, my parents were incredibly active, so they really set the foundation for me. When I got to middle school, track and cross country became my favorite sports and that carried me through high school.
Probably my friend Nicole. She’s a business owner, married with two kids (and a puppy), and still makes time to take care of herself.
Embarrassing, but my guiltiest pleasure is going to bed early. If I’m asleep by 9pm, it’s been at good day.
“There is such great pleasure in intentionally guiding your own life.”- Esther and Jerry Hicks
Oh, that’s tough. If I can pick a fictional character: Minerva McGonagall. If the person must actually exist- still Minerva McGonagall.
So, I’m a terrible cook. Seriously- I’ve poisoned people. At the beginning of the year, I tried a meal service that mailed me raw ingredients and recipes… EVERYTHING TASTED AMAZING! Also, I didn’t make anyone sick. In almost 26 years of life, I realize that seems trivial- but for all of my other “accomplishments” it’s never been a solo effort.

I’m currently attending classes at Eastern Michigan University and my degree will be in Exercise Science.
What got you into the fitness industry?
I have always been around sports my whole life and would love to continue being around people who are in sports or are in some ways athletic themselves.
My biggest inspiration is my high school cross country coach, Craig Dickinson. He took a ragtag group of kids and made us into the best the school has ever had, placing 12th at the state meet (which does not seem that high, but when you take 28 teams and our division being as tough as it was that year, that was pretty good).
My guilty pleasure would be food in general, I could eat nonstop and think that it is due to my running metabolism.
My favorite quote would actually be from a video game called Kingdom Hearts: “The heart may be weak and sometimes it might even give in, But I’ve learned that deep down there’s a light that never goes out.” -Sora.
My hero is not necessarily related to sports, but I would have to say my cousin Andy as he is about to graduate with his Doctorate in April in the field of Chiropractics. He has always been a person that I looked up to my entire life and he will be the first person in my entire, large family to get a doctorate degree.
My proudest accomplishment at present would have to be my athletic achievements of running a mile in 4:44, running the 2 mile in 10:08 and running a 5k in 16:36.
At Karaoke night, I would probably sing a country song (especially the 80’s and 90’s country songs as I know most of those song lyrics by heart).
