1) How did you hear about AFS?
I searched online for “Applied Fitness Solutions” after seeing the sign in front of the building as it was being renovated last winter.

2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?
I was inspired to get back into a better state of fitness when I found myself 20 pounds heavier and very out of shape after I retired from my career in the healthcare field. At the age of 52, I was disappointed that I had reached this point because I had worked as a PA and I knew what I should have been doing. We have an entire library of workout DVD’s but I wasn’t sticking with any of them for longer than 2-3 weeks. I found working out by myself in my basement boring and lonely! Also, my relationship with food was not ideal-I was either stress eating or rewarding myself for various things with high caloric, fattening treats. I began to feel that I had reached the point of no return in my fitness journey and my truly fit days were a thing of the past. I needed to change things up and I knew I could benefit with the help of some professional guidance.

3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?
After I had read about AFS online, I wanted to know more details about their program, so I scheduled an appointment with Nate. I quickly realized that AFS’ approach to fitness made a lot of sense and that I could benefit from the individual attention and accountability they would provide. I signed up because I truly wanted to set and actually achieve my specific goals. My short term goals included not just losing weight, but I also wanted to become stronger and more muscular. My long term goals are to avoid the many negative health conditions that can develop as we age such as, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, etc. I was excited to give AFS’ approach a try and to see if I could get back to being fit in my 50’s!

4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?
Food logging and being held accountable! The food logging was crucial for me-I’m a grazer and it is an eye opener to see how all of those ‘small’ snacks add up! The weekly food log review really helped identify my issues and Chris always has helpful tips to improve my nutrition. Having the assessments with my trainer every 6 weeks is very good for me as well. It’s very exciting to review the numbers and see proof that your hard work is paying off!

5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?
Maintaining consistency with my workouts and healthier eating habits. And lots of clothes that are now too big!

6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?
Be patient-sticking with your workout schedule and nutritional changes will yield results! True fitness is all about life style changes that are meant to be a permanent part of your life. Let the trainers guide you and ask them any and all questions you have-they have a wealth of knowledge that they are excited to share with you. And last but not least, get your spouse, significant other, or a friend to join too! My husband joined about 6 weeks after I did and we love going to class together or talking about the workouts when we go separately. For the first time in our 25 year marriage, we have been on the same page nutritionally for longer than 3 days! I’m so glad AFS is here in Plymouth. Thank you to Chris, Devin, and to all of the staff for helping me get back on track in my quest to be fit in my 50’s!

Patti we’re so happy we have been able to help you on your quest to be fit in your 50’s!  Keep up the great work!
