1) How did you hear about AFS?
I started AFS with my friend whose mom had gotten him a gift certificate. (Aaron Bebee) we wanted to start together to help keep each other accountable.
2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?
I had always been an athlete and worked out a lot, but the year before I started was pretty rough. I had just finished my residency and started my PhD. I was also working full time. I had a bad breakup and I reevaluated what I wanted in life. I realized that I had been neglecting my health and was not happy with the person I was outside of work and school.
3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?
I was so busy, it was easy to make excuses on why I couldn’t go to the gym. Whenever I had free time, sleep always won the battle but my sleep wasn’t restful. I was drawn to AFS because of the structure and support. I only had to dedicate an hour a few times a week which was all I felt I could make time for. I also liked the variety as the exercises always changed and I didn’t have to think because a practitioner was telling me what to do. For someone who is constantly intellectually stimulated, this was huge!!
4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?
I was hooked pretty instantly. I loved the atmosphere and the simple guidelines. The biggest eye opener was the food logging. I really appreciated that I didn’t have to worry so much about what I ate but only how much. It was easy to make simple choices when faced with that calorie count. I have always been plagued by injury and was so grateful for the ability to modify the exercise to benefit me and protect my body.
5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?
6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?
My advice would be to make yourself a priority. I know first hand how easy it is to get caught up in the stresses of a busy life. Small changes can go a long way in having a happier, healthier, more balanced life.
Laura, you’re such a hard worker and always kill it in class!
