1) How did you hear about AFS?
Google search! I was looking for some type of personal/group training in the Ann Arbor area.
2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?
I have been working out on a pretty regular basis for years but never saw any results. It was frustrating that I was putting in time and eating what I thought was relatively healthy, but never saw any lasting changes and ended up yo-yoing a lot. Obviously I wasn’t doing something right!
I am also involved in some pretty active hobbies like skydiving and horseback riding so the more fit I am, the better off I am. I have shoulder injuries from each of my hobbies so it is important to me to make sure my shoulders stay strong.
3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?
I liked that I didn’t have to think about my workouts, I just needed to show up! I needed accountability so having my own Fitness Practitioner was really appealing to me. And I liked that my progress would be tracked via assessments. I’m a nerd for numbers.
4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?
In the almost 5 years I’ve been a member, I’ve definitely had some ups and downs! Figuring out my happy balance between lifestyle and fitness goals took some trial and error but working with Sawyer has helped me figure out what is sustainable for me. Also being honest and food logging. The good and the bad. After a poor assessment is where I have made the most progress — if you get off track then your Fitness Practitioner can help you get back on track and figure out what is and is not working for you.
I also like that there is a variety of fitness classes at AFS so it never gets boring. We just added Group Strength to my workouts which is something I have never done before but it is fun to have a new challenge!
5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?
I’ve knocked a few minutes off of my 5k time and just feel stronger and more fit. With the lack of success I had in the past working out, I never thought I’d be able to get to the level of fitness that I am at now.
6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?
I tell my friends that if you can follow directions, then you can be successful at AFS! Really! I never realized how little I knew about fitness and nutrition until I started at AFS.
Chrissy, it’s been amazing to get to know you and watch you transform over the past 5 years! Cheers to many more 🙂
