1) How did you hear about AFS?

I was looking for a Personal Trainer in Ann Arbor.

2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?

A friend of mine started seeing amazing changes with diet and exercise. I started to research on the internet how to go about weight loss, but there was too much information and what I tried wasn’t working, so I thought I should get some help from an expert.

3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?

I wanted someone to tell me what I should be doing and why. AFS is great at explaining their methodology and the science behind the way they encourage you to eat and exercise. The scheduling flexibility is hard to beat, and both the in-class and outside of class exercises are the perfect full-body workout.

4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?

Oh man. So many things. My biggest problem was food, so the key to my success was getting eating under control. I think I was actually addicted to bread and carbs before starting with AFS. Being conscious/mindful about what I eat in terms of quality and quantity has helped me to keep overeating and lower quality foods in check. For example… will two pieces of chocolate really make me more happy than one? OR will these potato chips actually satisfy me?

5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?

It’s cheesy, but CONFIDENCE!! It’s truly incredible how much more confident I am. I am no longer concerned about what people think of my body and weight. It has allowed me to get over self-consciousness and show my real personality that was always there, just hiding! Also, now that I’m not subconsciously preoccupied with how I’m being perceived, I am able to be more engaged with the other person.

6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?

Accept where you are now, be excited that you’re making good changes, and trust in the process. It really is a lifestyle change and a journey (oh god, so cheesy). The other advice I have is to keep picking yourself up after you fall down. Eventually the time you spend on the ground will get shorter and shorter… instead of being down for months, it will be weeks, then days, and so on. Unless you’re on the ground doing push-ups; then by all means stay there 🙂

So glad we were able to help you show your true colors 🙂 Such an inspiration Rachel!
