How did you hear about AFS?
Before AFS opened I drove by the building every day and saw people working on it. I started asking around to see if anyone knew what the “building with blue” was and eventually when the sign went up I checked them out online.
What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?
I had always been a little heavier but during the year prior to signing up I gained a lot of weight and pretty fast. When I realized that pants I wore not even a year ago were now three (and almost four) sizes too small I got the inspiration I needed.
What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?
I have had a gym membership before and I have tried eating healthier but usually that just meant briefly using the elliptical and eating only salad and after 2 days expecting to have abs. When I didn’t have abs (shocking, I know) I would give up on the initiative until the next time I felt motivated. I had looked into getting a personal trainer but the cost for that was not an option for me. With the program at AFS I really liked that it focused on not only the physical aspect but also the nutritional piece as well. I wasn’t going to have to guess what exercises I needed to do and I also wouldn’t have to research crazy diets online.
How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?
A lot of hard work and listening to Chris, my practitioner. I usually have a lot going on and at the beginning working out was not a priority and an easy thing to skip. Once I put it into my schedule and made it a priority I saw the results that I wanted. Thanks to Chris I have learned more about what I should be eating and no longer think only salad can be eaten to lose weight. Chris has also been helpful at times when my assessments weren’t that great and he helped motivate me to work harder.
What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?
I have so much more energy! I used to need coffee and multiple pops to get through the work day. Now I don’t drink pop at work at all, only my one cup of coffee and then water the rest of the day. I feel more alert and I am no longer exhausted after work to the point where I need to go home and lay down. I have also enjoyed working out more. Not only do I do my WLS sessions each week and my workouts at the gym, but this year I made it a goal to do a 5k run every month. So far I am 6 for 6!
Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?
You won’t get results if you don’t put in the work. What you put in; you get out, so skipping the gym or not logging that snack isn’t going to help you in the long run.
