 1) How did you hear about AFS?

I bid on and “won” a month membership at a silent auction for a local charity. It was nice to see local businesses supporting the community and the AFS experience seemed unique compared to other workout regiments.

 2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?

I have always been active, but my workouts were all cardio and no strength. After having my second child, I hit a plateau with my usual routine. I struggled to get back to where I was prior to having children.

 3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?

Everything is individualized and tailored to my specific needs. From my calorie targets to the WLS classes, my goals were designed for me. The results are measurable, beyond just weight. In fact, I was never given a weight goal – rather a body composition goal. I can tell you that I am stronger than I was a few months ago, but being able to see my measurements improve every 6 weeks is incredibly motivating. Lastly, the key component: accountability. I know my trainer will be reviewing my workout and food log every week. She has high expectations for me and I don’t want let her down.

 4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?

I followed the rules! Seriously, it’s all math….output – input = gain/loss. We all know that, but food logging really helped me see that change.

 5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?

Everything I eat “counts.” I make sure that my diet is intentional, that I am getting the most out of my food. That means a higher protein intake, fewer carbs, and making sure that I budget for indulgences. As I mentioned earlier, I know I am stronger. This is especially useful given that I have small children 🙂 I am also working out more often and I vary my routine so I am in better shape overall.

6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over yet expecting different results. You have to make up your mind, set those high expectations and trust your trainer to get you there. That said, LISTEN TO YOUR TRAINER. There is a reason they work at AFS and you don’t 🙂

Congrats Betsy, glad we “won” you over at the silent auction!
