Connor wanted to go to the next level. We tailored a program to help him get there.

I heard about AFS through a few friends and coaches at Saline High School. I’m a Senior running back and also run track at Saline. Before starting at AFS, my goals were to improve my balance and agility, and to become stronger overall so that I could play at the collegiate level. Since the start of my program at AFS, I’ve improved ankle stability, become more explosive, and have increased overall strength.

Since Starting at AFS

My 40 yard dash time has decreased from 4.79 to 4.63sec, my bench press increased from 225 to 295lbs, squat from 325 to 420lbs, my power clean went from 215 to 295lbs, and my 20 yard shuttle decreased from 4.52 to 4.12 seconds.

What I’ve Learned

The most valuable fitness lesson I’ve learned from AFS, is that results aren’t going to just happen overnight. Consistency with a personalized workout program tailored to your goals is key. Also, the intake of necessary vitamins and nutrients your body needs is just as important as the workout itself. I’m thankful for the education I’ve received on how to keep myself in top physical condition during my time at AFS and can’t wait to build on it in college.

My Advice to Other Athletes

Start training as soon as possible, and keep a workout schedule you are able to do year round to maintain and improve your strength. Improving strength through resistance training for any sport is never a bad thing! Also be sure to have a plan for how you budget your time. I struggled with budgeting time between training, sleeping and studying, so stay on top of that! Luckily I had AFS to help me keep everything in order.

What’s Next

This fall, I’m attending Oberlin College to play football and I’m most excited about joining another team. Nothing beats the camaraderie and feeling of family like being on a team.
