1) How did you hear about AFS?
I decided to Google for personal trainers in my area and after looking at quite a few different gyms, I stumbled upon AFS.
2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?
I would always tell myself that I wanted to be more active, but I never wanted to commit to anything. I would start exercising a couple days a week for a month or so and then give up and make excuses. I was always mentally drained from school and work that whenever I had any free time I wanted to go out with friends. I convinced myself that I was content with my appearance so it was okay to give up. My mind changed last year when I had to fill in some extra credits at school so I took a weight training class with the thought that if I’m required to be there then maybe I’ll actually stick to something. Everyone in that class was an athlete for the school so they were all in great shape and knew what they were doing with the weights, and that intimidated me. I just used the elliptical in the corner the entire hour so I wouldn’t get in the way. When I finally got the courage to ask a classmate for help at the end of the semester, I became hooked and I wanted to keep going. So when the semester ended I looked up various gyms to join with a good training staff and I found AFS! I looked at the website almost every day for a good two weeks because I was too nervous to contact someone. After my first Strength Solution class, I knew that I made the right decision and couldn’t wait to go back the following week.
3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?
When I finally came in and sat down with Nate to talk about everything AFS had to offer, I knew it was the right place for me. The first thing he showed me was the Strength Solution class and how it is set up to fit each individual clients goals rather than some generic plan for everyone. I also love that each client is assigned to their own practitioner to set goals with while training in a group setting. The flexibility with being able to drop in for a class is nice too for someone with an inconsistent school/work schedule like mine! I could go on and on about how great AFS and the staff are.
4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?
I have followed the plan Brooke and I set up as best as I could from the very beginning. She changes things up for me at every assessment in order to keep getting results, which I love! I started prepping all of my food to take with me because I’m rarely home, and I always have a gym bag ready to go so I can’t make any excuses! There are definitely times that I’m tired from working on homework all night then waking up early for clinical, but I never let that stop me. Those are usually the only days that I have time in the evening to come to AFS so I can’t use that as an excuse to miss a workout! Changing my eating habits was definitely challenging. I had to teach myself to ignore the fact that my boyfriend keeps our pantry stocked with every delicious treat you could think of, and the fact that there is a giant candy bowl always filled with my favorite candy right on the counter. The days that I do give in to the sweets I put it in my food log and get back on track the next day!
5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?
I’ve become so much more confident with myself, something that I’ve always had issues with. My overall mood has changed and I’m so much happier every day, even when life starts getting hectic. The amount of energy I have is amazing too! I’ve become someone who will wake up at 5 in the morning to go workout! Two years ago I wouldn’t have even imagined doing that.
6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?
Find what works for you and have fun with it! Put 100% into every workout and communicate with your practitioner! They give you the tools you need to succeed, but the results come from the work that you put into it. Always remember that just because you may have some inconveniences along the way, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up, just hold on to the motivation that you had at the beginning of your journey and you will get there!
Great words of wisdom Cassie! Congrats on all the work you’ve put into coming this far! It shows and we’re happy to have you at AFS 🙂
