 1) How did you hear about AFS?

My awesome friend Christina Schaible gave AFS rave reviews so I knew I needed to try it.

 2) What/Who inspired you to take the first step toward getting in shape?

I’d been attending spin class for the last three-plus years, three to four times a week, plus doing other things like Skyrobics from time to time and had seen a marked improvement in my cardio and some slimming down, but wanted better muscle tone and to just be leaner overall, especially since I’m getting married soon!

 3) What initially intrigued you about our program/why did you sign up?

Everyone seemed like they were having fun. The staff was very, very friendly and welcoming, and it seemed like the work was challenging but not intimidating. The idea of accountability to someone other than myself was a huge motivator as well.

 4) How did you achieve the success you’ve seen thus far?

Honestly, the accountability is what really gets me. I’m a self-proclaimed people pleaser, and as I log my food and activities I’m always thinking, “Am I going to disappoint Kemper?”. Learning portion control after being indoctrinated with the “starving children” line of thought for years was a big part of seeing the scale move. My fiancé, Bill, has been a huge supporter, checking in daily on what my calorie count is and making dinners accordingly. Also, the staff at AFS continues to encourage me each workout – adding weight, moving faster, correcting form. I could not have done any of this without the fitness instructors at AFS.

 5) What changes have you noticed in your life since starting with AFS?

I’ve been more open to trying new things – I started running in March, which I never thought I would do, did a race in April and signed up for another in June. I obtained my spin instructor certification and will start teaching soon. What our household eats and drinks – and the quantity – has been a huge part of this. We are a predominantly vegan/vegetarian household to being with, but the calorie allotment in connection with protein goals has made us more creative in our menus. And of course, the physical changes (and people noticing them!) is the ultimate reward. I never get tired of telling people that AFS is the secret to my success when they ask what I’m doing.

6) Advice you can offer others looking to make changes you’ve made?

Don’t get down if you have an off day – just get back on track as soon as you can. Find activities you love to do and do them, often. Keep people in your life who support what you’re doing – there are going to be those who are “haters” or jealous of your success. Don’t let them derail you.

Congrats Nicole! Hope we get an invite to your wedding!
