I started coming to AFS about 8 years ago on the recommendation of my doctor, who knew the owner (Mike Stack) well and respected the work that he and all his staff were doing. As a long distance runner over the age of 60 it has become increasingly important to make sure I train my entire body, not just my quadriceps and it had become apparent that I had some muscle imbalances that were affecting my running. I had a thorough workup done on me with muscle strength tests and video and quickly identified the parts of my anatomy that were not working as hard as they should be. The AFS staff devised a plan for me that helped to work on the weak links in my lower body. I have loved my workouts and especially have appreciated the individualized attention that I get from the amazing trainer who writes up my schedules and who I work with as often as possible during my workouts. As I have worked through some injuries he has adjusted workouts as necessary and I feel completely secure that I am in the best hands possible. The workout environment is terrific with great clients that I now consider friends and a level of support emanating from the entire staff that makes working out there a joy. The sense of community is terrific - I can't recommend it highly enough!

I love AFS! I was a member in Plymouth before the pandemic started. Even though they closed that location, their MY180 program came to my attention right when I was ready for a 180 in my health and fitness. From my initial consult with Kemper, everything has been fantastic. My health coach, Chris, has been encouraging and responsive. My dietitian, Alex, has helped me to change my perspective on food, finding a balance between nutrition and pleasure. All of the exercise physiologists I've worked with are amazing (Adam, Karon, Will, Eric, Andrew, Piper, and I'm sure I've forgotten someone). I know that I am not just doing a program, but building a new lifestyle that is not only sustainable, but gives me the tools I need to thrive.

The trainers are excellent and the setup is great.

I met with AFS staff back in April with a pretty aggressive goal of getting stronger before a major surgery in mid-July. They accepted the challenge and set me up for great success. I am blown away by the progress and muscle mass growth in just under 3 months. I am 10 days out from my surgery now and have been feeling great. I know the AFS program/team have played a huge role in my recovery so far and I am excited to continue the progress with them!

I've been going to AFS 2-3 times per week for the last 9 months. I needed something to get me moving. I didn't set any meaningful goals beyond that - just showing up to classes and doing the exercises. After 6 months, my strength had improved immensely. After another 3 months, it improved again, and my aerobic fitness improved too. The process truly works, and the coaches are there every step of the way with whatever kind of support you need. If you want to get in shape, get stronger, or (like me) just get moving, I highly, highly recommend AFS.

Love the strength classes, just wish I started right when PT ended (to finish getting my strength back) instead of waiting a few months pretending I would get it done on my own. So much research on the importance of lifting weights and AFS has the best program I’ve ever seen!

This place is amazing. If you’re not a “workout person”, they make you feel very welcome. The trainers are very knowledgeable and supportive. It is a reasonably priced, well maintained facility. I highly recommend giving a call to Kemper and he will motivate you to reach your full potential.

Applied Fitness Solutions is a hidden gem of a training facility. Every member is an assigned a personal trainer who meets with you to design a workout routine that is tailored to your abilities and goals. These plans get updated regularly to keep things fresh and to take into account the improvements your body is making. The workout areas are kept immaculately clean and the equipment is in great shape. Several trainers are always available during workouts to help with form and safety, and to act as friendly cheerleaders. They make an effort to get to know every one of the members. It’s such a pleasure to be a part of such a welcoming and supportive community.

AFS is one of those rare finds. A great facility with phenomenal trainers. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun. I see people of all ages and stages of fitness there. I always feel like I’m among friends there!

Absolutely the best of the best. I started going here about 10 years ago, was in the best shape of my life and having a blast doing it. Then I was diagnosed with RA and scleroderma, the pandemic hit, things were chaotic all around. Fast forward to last year, I was able to find good treatments and started feeling like myself again, so I wanted to get active again and back into shape. I knew exactly where to go - AFS. Not only are they amazing at helping people in general, but I knew with their extremely knowledgable staff and science-based approach, they would know how to help me reach my goals while staying as healthy as possible with my chronic illnesses. I started seeing and feeling a difference in weeks. You 100% cannot go wrong here - every experience level, every fitness level, every starting point - all are welcoming and kind, and the staff are top notch. Try it. You won't regret it.

AFS is a great place to exercise, it's not just a gym. It's a joy to work out there. The trainers are more than happy to assist with your workout with assistance ranging from close observation to only helping when a person asks, with the level that you require.

I highly recommend Applied Fitness Solutions to anyone looking for compassionate, specialized, and effective fitness training and care. I moved cross-country to Ann Arbor just before the start of 2024, after what had been an eventful year. I was 5 months post-op bilateral mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction (breasts are reconstructed from abdominal tissue) for extensive but thankfully very early breast cancer. My family had pushed off our move because of the surgery and recovery time. While I had a wonderful physical therapist for post-surgery rehabilitation, I knew that if I were to ever feel good/strong again across my core and entire upper body, I would need more than stretching and scar tissue massage. I made a pact with my physical therapist that I would find a trainer in my new city, but I had no idea how to go about it. I had not been to a weight room in more than 20 years, since college, and found the thought of lifting at a gym (in front of people) incredibly intimidating. I had visions of bros grunting and kissing their jacked arms. AFS could not be more different. While there are certainly some jacked arms, there are ALL the arms, and everyone is running their own race. It is an incredibly supportive, warm, and inclusive environment. And it’s truly an experience that you are allowed to shape based upon your goals. I was matched with coach Chris Early who carefully listened to what I hoped to do (continue to heal and gain strength) as well as what worried me (getting hurt and messing up my recovery). Chris expertly crafted a program that was both fun and challenging. He was knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. Chris and all the coaches and trainers have a wonderful and humorous spirit about them that is contagious. I am almost 45 and wish I had committed to a weight training plan years ago. I would urge anyone reading this review to not wait for something as dramatic as surgery. But I’m doing it now and I am feeling stronger and better than I did even 10-15 years ago when I was probably at the height of my aerobic fitness and running half marathons. How that can happen in a mere four months’ time is a testament to the care and expertise that the AFS team puts into every detail. I can’t thank them and Chris enough!

The patience and determination of the staff to keep me on task and motivated is so appreciated! I’m so happy with the results of my strength program. Oh and huge kudos to Chris for his attention to detail in accommodating a few neck issues I have. I’ve never felt so strong and healthy! 🙏 thank you!

This place is a life saver. Kemper and all the trainers have been so encouraging and supportive during one of the most challenging times of my life. I can say for sure that this gym is focused on their clients as a whole and they are dedicated to improvement in several areas (health, fitness, nutrition, mental health). What’s not to love about Applied Fitness Solutions?! Best gym EVER. From the first day visited & met co-owner Kemper Sosa, -so warm, welcoming, knowledgable, and curious about my fitness goals- ...to the fabulous personal coaching I’ve received from the lovely, wise, highly attentive, and experienced Ann Brennan, I couldn’t be happier!! Ann is super professional, as well as very personable and fun. Not to mention her magnificent coaching expertise. I have osteoporosis, so I’ve especially valued her ability to listen careful to my fitness needs, offer customized workouts, and provide gently, helpful corrections on my form as needed. All the staff I’ve met at AFS, as well as gym members, have been warm, welcoming, and fun getting to know. AFS is a first-class gym focused on clients’ health transformation AND overall well-being. The way staff CARE at AFS is powerful. My kind of place for sure! Next up for me is participation a strength training program through my individualized workout plan, and also attending some of the fitness classes. Can’t wait!! I highly recommend coming for a visit. We’ve been members since June, 2023. We have a membership and also work with our personal training fitness coaches. We have learned so much about ourselves/our bodies and have become stronger and more fit. EVERYONE at AFS is so supportive whether it is in our own training, the fitness classes and strength training. We get the guidance we need to continue to progress to our goals. We enjoy being at AFS not only bc of the team but also because of the fitness clients we have met. We are 58 and 60 and so glad we found AFS to guide us through our fitness journey!

As a mom of 3 little girls, it’s very important to me that I model what it looks like to prioritize your own health and take care of yourself. This program helped me prioritize myself again after having my third child in 2022, but more importantly has made me feel stronger than I ever have felt before. It has helped me have a more motivated outlook on strength training and consistent exercise in general. I also love seeing tangible progress I make each month to keep me motivated and see how my hard work has paid off. I highly recommend this program, especially for women who want to build muscle and feel stronger. I am grateful for Chris for helping me get here, he has been very encouraging and has helped keep me accountable to myself and my goals. I’m excited and confident in the progress I will continue to make!

Am relatively new to AFS but so far I am impressed. My one on one meeting and assessment with Chris was informative and in depth. The classes are great and all the instructors SUPER helpful to someone who is new to their program.

The coaches are well-trained and always available to help me in the strength training classes I attend. My exercises are based on my physical assessment, and I continue to feel stronger because of the exercises they give me to do.

I appreciate having workouts created for me, a different workout out for the two different days I come each week. I have been doing strength training for just over 2 years and I know that my strength has improved dramatically. I appreciate how the AFS Team helps you lift correctly. Adrian has added a few extra exercises to help me with an injured tendon. That has been helpful as well.

Wow! I’ve been working out at AFS for almost a month. I am a reluctant exerciser and wanted to add weight training because I know I need it as a woman in my 50s. Each class there are one to two (or more!) trainers who are available to get me situated on a machine or check my form or suggest an alternative exercise if I’m having a hard time. I’m amazed that each trainer calls everyone by name and is super encouraging and Knowledgeable!

I’ve been with Applied Fitness Solutions for a month now. What amazes me about this place is the individualized attention that I receive. From Personal Trainers to Strength/Fitness classes, there’s alway someone there who will give you words of encouragement, explain the correct form, or just check in to see how you’re doing. I truly love this place and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight, get ripped, get healthy, or train for a specific sport.

AFS isn't just a gym, it's a community. I participate in the Strength Solutions program. I love that someone writes a workout just for me every 6 weeks to keep it interesting and effective, and that i record my stats on an app that tracks my progress. All the agents are super friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. They are constantly asking how you're doing and feeling and how they can help. You receive very individualized attention; if you have an injury or specific request they are very accommodating. I definitely recommend AFS!! 👍🏼

I have been working out at AFS for over 3 years. I love the strength classes and the circuit classes. All of the staff are amazing! They are more than coaches, they technicians, they are cheerleaders and they are people you would call friends. They all genuinely care about keeping us safe, but yet pushing us to grow. I have been going to Applied Fitness Solutions for at least 7 years and love it. I can't believe I stayed with any fitness program that long. The staff at AFS are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They give you individual attention in a group setting, which is great. I also love the community at AFS. There are a range of ages from teenagers to geriatric as well as a range of fitness levels and body types. There is NOTHING competitive about it, so I can always feel comfortable working to my own level and ability. The facilities are always clean, smell fresh, and the equipment is in excellent working order. There are enough different offers from personalized weight lifting to aerobic fitness to keep it interesting. I can not recommend this place high enough.

There is no better fitness place around . I cannot describe the level of caring , expertise and attention that a client receives at this place . I am grateful for AFS every time I come here ( and the days in between as well !)

Excellent gym: clean, spacious, lots of variety/spaces to work out, not overcrowded and, as a “mature” member, there are others in the mature age range too. But especially, the trainers: knowledgeable, friendly, attentive. Each trainer can greet you by name and is there for advice or instruction on how to use the equipment. And, you are given a new, personalized program each week.

The thing I like most about Applied Fitness Solutions is that you’ll see such a huge variety of people in your classes. People of all ages, people of all fitness levels, people of all experience levels… everyone has to start somewhere. They are very purposeful in teaching you how to do the exercises or use the machines, and how to do it correctly so that you’ll get the most out of it and won’t hurt yourself. If you’re thinking about joining a gym for the first time and are intimidated or nervous about it, this is the place to go.

Most fun place to start your fitness journey! Started in their fitness classes and moved on to strength training… something I never saw myself doing, let alone enjoying. AFS is keeping me healthy and fit so I can do all the things I planned in retirement! The AFS team is passionate in their commitment to their clients!
