What motivated you to start at AFS?

I would get home from work everyday feeling exhausted and didn’t want to do anything. I have a desk job, so I should not be exhausted. I was gaining weight, not eating healthy and knew I needed to make a change. I saw AFS Rochester being built and was thinking to myself, great, just what everyone needs, another gym. The gym was finally finished and open for business, so I looked at the signage in the windows and saw a lot of things that made AFS different. So, I started to do some more research and was kind of impressed with what they were offering. I decided to make an appointment to see if they could really provide the services they were advertising . After my initial meeting I was sold, started right away and haven’t had any regrets.

What keeps you coming back to AFS?

The results: fat dropping, muscle building; the camaraderie, all the trainers and staff and the other members too. All of it, it is a great experience. Everyone at AFS is your cheerleader, not just your trainer, everyone. While lifestyle changes are not easy, AFS realizes this and encourages you to make small changes over time. Trainers are involved in the classes to ensure you are doing the exercises properly, if not, they will re-position you to ensure your form is correct and you are hitting the right muscle group. There are always reminders in class: squeeze your glutes, keep your core tight. So, your mind is always on doing the exercise the right way. They will also challenge you, encourage you to add additional weight during an exercise, or height, or distance to make the exercises more challenging.

If you are looking for FAD diets, the latest trends, lose weight fast schemes, then AFS is not for you. AFS is there to help you make lifestyle changes that will last. You won’t hear any lose weight quick schemes at AFS. Heck, my trainer Trent has been trying to get me to change something in my diet for the past year and a half and I have fought him tooth and nail, but we have made a little progress and he is still trying. And while I have not changed that one thing, I am still making progress, just a little slower. I also love that they don’t sell or push products. If your trainer says try taking a multi-vitamin, they will provide you with information so you can do your own research and choose the right vitamin for you; example: here is a website, take a look and choose one, let me know if you have questions. There is always information behind what the trainers recommend, and they all seem to be furthering their education, so you know you are getting sound advice. They are more than willing to make recommendations, but the choices are all yours.

What has been the most rewarding part of your experience?

Feeling my pants get looser and my muscles get bigger. Nothing feels better than noticing results and realizing that you have a support system. In the end, it ultimately rests on the effort you put forth. Your trainer will guide you and advise you, but YOU have to want it and put in the effort.

What advice would you give to others looking to start at AFS?

If you are looking to make lifestyle changes in order to be healthier and more fit then set up an appointment and get started now. You might not have your desired beach bod in the next 6 months, but you will be well on your way to a healthier and more fit lifestyle.
