What got you into doing massage?

I was working for a traveling circus as the head chef, and after 10 years of working in and out of kitchens I decided I needed to get out and do something that was a little less high-octane. I wanted a line of work that would still give me flexibility, but would also allow me to connect with people in a healing and nurturing way (like cooking does with food!). I went from Vermont at the end of the touring season, and moved to Colorado, all within a month! From there, the rest is history!

What brought you to AFS?

I was working at a chiropractic office in Plymouth and found AFS online. They were looking for a massage therapist, so I thought I would apply. One of the things that I liked was the opportunity to work in a fitness environment. I have always been into fitness, so pulling the two worlds together seemed like a great fit.

Who could benefit from massage?

Basically all humans! Seriously though: massage can be so beneficial for so many things, from a bum shoulder all the way up to getting relief from a stressful day. My personal mission as a massage therapist is to help people to see that massage isn’t just a luxury: it’s a crucial part of self care.

What can you be found doing outside of work?

I love being outside! It’s my happy place for sure: hiking, kayaking, hanging out at the beach…it’s all good. I also love my creative outlets: painting, stained glass, music, etc.

If there was one place you could travel to, where would it be?

Oh, this is a dangerous question for me. The list is huge! Currently on my list: Bali, New Zealand, Nepal, and Japan : )

What’s your favorite meal?

It sounds cliche, but any meal with good company! But! If I had to pick: Ramen (the real stuff, not the 25 cent stuff ; )

Katie enjoys hiking with her dog, Ouros!
