Ashley recently graduated from Grand Valley State University in December 2018 with a degree in Clinical Exercise Science and now she’s here to put her skills to the test as Plymouth’s newest Fitness Intern! You can find her in Weight Loss Solution classes helping out with cueing, giving modifications for orthopedic issues, and providing encouragement for everyone in class. When she’s not in the WLS room, you can also find Ashley monitoring the Strength Solutions room and absorbing the fine details of how our Strength room instructors provide guidance to those looking to build up some strength or correct problematic areas. Overall, she’s an aspiring physical therapist and is passionate about exercise, but this is actually the first “gym” setting she’s worked in.
Why did you choose AFS?
When I was going through internships that were available for GVSU, this one really captured my attention the most because it was structured differently than most of the places I wasn’t used to. When I came here to visit, the environment really took me. Between the clients and the staff that said hi to me, it felt really welcoming and inviting, so it made sense for me that this was the best option.
What can you be found doing when you’re not at AFS?
Really, I love spending time with my dog, Lola–who’s actually a 2-year old half-chihuaha and half pekingese. I also love to dance and play soccer. And, of course, lifting and going to the gym.
What’s your favorite place in the world to visit and why?
My favorite city is definitely Florence, Italy. I can’t wait to go back. It’s just beautiful and I have family that lives nearby.
What’s at the top of your bucket list?
Probably skydiving. It just seems exhilarating.
