As a former General Manager at Planet Fitness, Aarif isn’t new to the fitness industry. He’s the backbone of the administrative staff at AFS Plymouth, managing the staff’s scheduling, client account issues, and operations. Come in during the day and Aarif will be ready to greet you!

He’s currently pursuing his M.B.A. at University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he graduated with a journalism degree back in 2013. Many may not know this about Aarif, but he’s actually a freelance hockey writer for the Denver Post and writes about all sports involving UM-Dearborn.

Why did you choose AFS?

AFS was an easy decision because the whole team here truly believes in making each and every person that walks through our doors the best version of themselves–and that includes fellow staff members. The culture here cannot be understated and the vote of confidence you get from your higher-ups to continue to pursue your lifelong goals is what makes dedicating my time to AFS worthwhile.

What can you be found doing while you’re not at AFS?

Let’s go ahead and label me a hockey addict (go figure; I’m Canadian). I spend a majority, if not all, of my free time watching hockey, listening to hockey podcasts, writing about hockey, talking hockey, or thinking of more innovative ways to continue to pursue a future as a hockey writer and reporter somewhere in Colorado.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

A Friday night at Sal’s Pizza in Dearborn with a buddy of mine. Large pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, banana peppers and pineapple (which totally belongs on pizza!), 18 buffalo wings, cajun fries, an order of breadsticks, and a few sides of ranch… At this point, I generally ask my buddy what he’s eating because I’m not sharing.
